I love art. And more recently, I love making stuff. And, doing the dreaded: scrapbooking. I always used to hate it, but for some reason, I’ve become strangely attracted to it; so attracted that I have already spent hundreds of dollars worth of materials at my local Michaels store, which is conveniently (and dangerously) close to my apartment.

But, what do I do with all this stuff? I’ve always thought of myself as pretty artistic, or at least creative, but when I try my hand at scrapbooking I feel... drained. I look forward to it, but when I actually get down to doing it, I sort of want it to be over, and the end product makes me feel not so proud of what I’ve just made.

It’s a good thing, then, that there is a public library that is also conveniently close to my apartment. That’s where I picked up The Michaels Book of Paper Crafts, which is wonderful. It takes you through not only scrapbooking but also card making, book and journal making, decoupage, paper folding, paper mache and paper clay, collage, paper cutting, paper quilling, and surface design. For being completely new at something like scrapbooking and feeling frustrated with my results, I found this book very useful: it shows what the basic materials and techniques are in a very easy to follow way. There are a few projects listed in each section as well as galleries for ideas.

This book has great ideas, a wonderful layout, and has definitely taught me a lot.
